Pop Star Welcome For Colin The Crocodile Copper as
Colin the Crocodile Copper, Gloucestershire Police’s number 1 road safety reptile was treated to a pop star welcome as his tour of schools across the five valleys stopped in Stroud on Tuesday (September 10).

Colin visited Callowell County Primary School in Farmhill, where the event involved the unveiling of florescent jackets for pupils and road signs around the main entrance to the school displaying the slogan ‘Thank You For Keeping Us Safe’.

The campaign was launched back in February at The Park Infant and Park Junior Schools in Stonehouse after a parent on foot picking their child up from one of the schools was involved in a collision with the driver of a car also picking a child up. This incident raised the issue of how car drivers around schools in Stroud District acted at the start and end of the school day. The aim of the campaign is to educate parents on safe and responsible driving through the pupils.

Local PCSO Gary Lynch who arranged Tuesday’s special guest appearance was delighted with how the event went. Gary said “The children at Callowhill really did me proud! Afterwards the children and parents were coming out and asking me about the initiatives, which shows that the message is really getting through. As for the reception for Colin, I don’t think that One Direction would have got a better one!”

Colin will be making further visits to the schools to keep the message of road safety fresh in everyone’s minds.
